新加坡南洋理工大学贺英教授学术报告

Title: Recent Trends on Discrete Geodesics

Abstract: Abstract: Measuring geodesicdistances on polyhedral surfaces plays an important role in many real-worldapplications. This problem was studied extensively in 80s and 90s incomputational geometry field, mainly focusing on the theoretical issues. Since2000s, computer graphics research has made significant contributions to developefficient and practical computational tools. In this talk, I will discussrecent trends on the discrete geodesic problem. In particular, I will focus on1) parallel methods for exact geodesics and 2) pre-computing methods forapproximate geodesics. I will also compare and evaluate the existing methodsfrom applications' perspective.

 

Bio of speaker: Ying He is currently anassociate professor at School of Computer Engineering, Nanyang TechnologicalUniversity, Singapore. He received the BS and MS degrees in electricalengineering from Tsinghua University, China, and the PhD degree in computerscience from Stony Brook University, USA. His research interests fall into thegeneral areas of visual computing and he is particularly interested in theproblems which require geometric analysis and computation.
